What is IQ?
Intelligence quotient, shortly IQ - is your cognitive ability to learn, thinking abstractly and creatively. First attempts to measure IQ where made in the end of 19th century (Read more in article IQ tests history). To say, it is not just hard to measure it, it is even hard to define what is it. These are definitions accepted by scientists:
- Intelligence it is what can be measured by intelligence tests.
- Intelligence is generalized ability to learn.
- Intelligence is the ability for abstract thinking.
- Intelligence is what ensures the effectiveness of adaptation, behavior in a complex environment.
- Intelligence is ability to solve difficult unusual problems and fulfill complicated tasks and jobs.
So, we can say that IQ shows people's abilities to think, study and behave. These abilities depend on IQ levels and different for dissimilar degrees.
Intelligence models
In the beginning of 20th century scientists started trying to determine structure of intelligence. For today, we have a lot of different models of intelligence structure. (Read more in article Models of intelligence)
Here, we will show you one of the models made by Eysenck in 1979. Schematically his model looks like a cube, each of the planes of which represents different modalities: intellectual processes (thinking, memory, perception tie, etc.), test material (verbal, spatial, etc.) and, finally, what has been called "quality" (the speed and power of intellectual processes). Let us immediately explain that the strength (power) of the intellect consists of the insistence responsiveness in performing tasks and a tendency to check for errors.
Conclusion
To conclude, IQ - is a bunch of cognitive abilities, which are measured by IQ tests. This cognitive abilities shows your capability to solve difficult unusual problems and fulfill complicated tasks and jobs.
